June 7, 1941Dear Mrs. Grace:
In reply to your letter of June 4th in regard to the whereabouts of your daughter, Virginia, who has been working with Mr. McFadden in Cyprus, I regret to say that our information on the subject is also somewhat meager.
On May 2nd I received word from Mr. Carl Logue of Ashland, New Jersey, who I believe takes care of some of Mr. McFadden's affairs, that he had received instructions from Mr. McFadden by cable requesting that funds be cabled to the American Express Company in Athens. I immediately got in touch with Mr. Logue to see if there was anything the Museum could do in case Mr. McFadden was in difficulty, but Mr. Logue assured me that Mr. McFadden was well able to take care of himself under the most trying circumstances, and he felt we should not confuse whatever plans he had in mind for himself and his staff.
I know that this information is not a great deal of help to you, but I have been assured so many times of Mr. McFadden's ability to extricate himself from difficult circumstances that we, at the Museum, believe firmly that he and Miss Grace will manage to get through this all right. He has given us no inkling through recent correspondence, which is all many months old, as to what plans he had about leaving Cyprus, so there is really just nothing else I can tell you.
I shall get in touch with Mr. Logue, and if I have any further news I shall let you know immediately.
Sincerely yours
Alice M. Goudy Assistant to the Director
