Dear Sirs:

Mr. George McFadden who will present this letter to you is a member of the Museum Staff and has been carrying on research work for us in Cyprus. He will show you copies of correspondence I have had with the State Department, regarding issuing him a passport. We do not know whether to interpret their answer as meaning that even if a new passport were issued it would be stamped "not valid for travel to any country in Europe", or whether because his present one is so dilapidated, permission to go to Cyprus might be granted upon issuance of a new passport.

It is obvious that to reach Cyprus expeditiously he must touch European countries and pursuit of his research would necessitate, too, one or more stays in Athens.

I would appreciate it if you would be so kind as to advise him on these points for he is anxious to make arrangements to sail, if possible the end of this month.

Sincerely yours,
