Berchtesgaden,

25 August, 1939Dear Mr. Hill,

I have your letters of August 9th and 19th, both received at the same time as I have been away from here for some time and out of communication. I am sorry this has caused a delay in sending more funds to reemburse Curium Excavations. I find now that I have used up my last check on my home bank account. I could I suppose, send a blank check but think it would be better and safer to send money from Morgans at Paris where I will be next week before sailing on the Europa Sept. 2nd. I have no letter of credit with me, only traveling checks and registered marks. As soon as I arrive at Paris I will send by cable $1000.00 to the Ottoman Bank in favour of Curium Excavations. So you can begin to draw checks on the account I should think as early as Monday.

Two items appear in my note book on account of the Mosaic between June 10th and 24th. These are,

June 17nails0-3-3
19tool1-3

In addition to this there was a large bill I paid for wood, paper, and glue,( this is in addition to the glue given us by the Cyprus Museum ). I made no entry for this in my pocket account book and believe the bill is in Cyprus as I havent got it with me. It was rather a big amount, the timber being the main item, but I fear I'll not be able to give you a detailed account until my return to Cyprus.

I see that the Pound Sterling has gone down to $4.06 so the delay in sending funds though very embarassing may prove to be rather profitable .

Am sending this off in a rush and will write you at greater length next week.
