I wrote several days ago to the University of Pennsylvania to make inquiries about the possibility of my working toward the Ph.D degree there, and about the availability of fellowships. In my letter I suggested a plan whereby I would work half of the year at the University, and spend the other half with the Cyprus expedition. I would appreciate very much any support you feel able to give this plan and my subsequent application for a fellowship, which alone will make it possible.

Hoping that the manuscript reaches you in good order, and in the expectation of hearing from you again, I remain

Yours sincerely,
