Dear Mr. Jayne,
I am sending you under separate cover a copy of the report on the section of the excavations at Kourion in Cyprus which was under my direct supervision. Mr. Hill has seen the manuscript and has approved it. If it meets with your approval too I shall take steps to have it published.
As you will see, it is a strictly preliminary report on what was found during this first season of investigation of the Late Bronze Age site of Kourion. If nothing else I at least believe that this excavation has shown that the history of Kourion goes back to the earliest prehistoric times. It has also given good stratigraphical evidence for the very end of the Bronze Age in Cyprus, which was not hitherto available. A dig of this sort can not be expected to give much more than historical information, so I was particularly pleased to find the seals, which have a certain artistic merit over and above their historic interest.
We are, as you know, returning to Cyprus this autumn to continue our excavations. I will continue the work on the Bamboula, and hope for some more interesting material.
I have sent a copy of my manuscript to Miss Swindler, who published my article "Two Late Cypriote III Tombs From Kourion", and who has asked several times about the results of the excavation of the Late Bronze Age site. If she can publish the article she will refer the matter to you, so as to be sure of your approval before proceeding with the publication.
