P.K.18 Tarsus, Turkey

11 June, 1936Dear Mr. Hill,

Please excuse my delay in answering your last letter. I have been waiting to hear from the University in order to know where I stand, and their letter has only just arrived.

I am not to return to America. The fellowship is for work abroad. I plan to go to Europe after finishing here (with most time in London, but visits to Paris, Copenhagen, and Stockholm), and return to Greece in the winter.

May I wait to give a final answer about Kourion until the plans are thoroughly crystalized? I have also been asked to return to Tarsus next spring, and have been offered as booty the study + publication of all the pottery from Mycenaean to Hellenistic, inclusive. Quite aside from the valuable chronological material there is a great deal of interest, and to be the first to classify the pottery of as important a region as Cilicia appeals to me as something not to be missed.

On the other hand I am anxious to go on with Kourion, particularly so if there is a chance to investigate earlier phases of the city.
