THE UNIVERSITY MUSEUM UNIVERSITY of PENNSYLVANIA PHILADELPHIA

April 15, 1936Dear Mr. Hill,

How are things going with your Cyprus dig? Have you had a good season? So far we have had no word other than the news through the Metropolitan Museum about the new fragments of the large inscribed jar about which I wrote you. It was a great pity that your funds were held up last autumn; as you know, Mr. Jayne was away in Persia, and during his absence there was a temporary tie-up of outgoing funds, but that, I believe, is all straightened out now.

We should like to publish shortly in the Museum Bulletin some news about the progress of your excavations, and I feel also that it would be wise for Mr. McFadden to write occasionally about how things are going that the Directors may be kept in touch with his work and their interest maintained. Perhaps you will drop a hint to him about this?

I have postponed my trip to Italy and Greece until next year, chiefly because I wanted to have my work on the Italic tomb-groups in our museum a little further along before I went to Italy. But next year I fully intend to come.

With best greetings to Mrs. Hill and to the Blegens, I am,

Very sincerely yours,
