9 Plutarch Street, Athens,

1 August 1935Dear Mr.Hilton,

I enclose a request for amendment to our Curium permit to cover four plots lying southeast of Ayios Armoyenios church, between plots No LVIII-4-65 (where Mr.Dikaios dug in 1933 and we in 1934) and LVIII-12-7 to which the permit was extended 11th July 1934.

For three of the lots to which we wish the permit to apply we have the consent of the lessee, Hassan Effendi, countersigned by the Evkaf agent at Limassol. These are lots 84, 86 and 87, Sheet lviii/4. For No.85, which is reported to be the property of a Vakf not under the Evkaf Department, we obtained only thesignature of the lessee. The trustee of that Vakf is said to be Ahmed Adil Eff, who is working at Phoukassa mines. I don't know where those are, but if this trustee's signature is necessary and Lazaros or someone else representing you or me could obtain it I should be very grateful. If the signature is required bytnot easily obtainable, we can get along at first without the lot 85. I will then try to get the signature later.

We shall apparently be able to keep our house and storerooms at Episkopi, with two additional storerooms, by paying considerably heavier rental than we should pay. However, it is a satisfaction to know that we are not likely to be evicted and the rental may be brought down a bit when we come to make the actual bargain.

Christo, writing July 24th, tells me that he learned that day in Limassol that Hassan Effendi had brought the price of the lot LVIII-4-45, wherein are the 'palace' with the mosaics and the theater etc, to thrice the registered value. Whether this means that the lot has been sold to Hassan by the Trustee in Bankruptcy of the Chrysostomides properties or only that the asking price of the land is now 30s per stremma instead of the registered 10s or the 25s last asked of me, I have no means of knowing. If the lot has been sold legally at 30,expropriation will cost about 150% more than we had calculated -- which would be a great pity. To have things go on happening in the summer puts us rather at a disadvantage!

Sincerely yours,
