In all these cases except the first there will be one item of expense not allowed for in the grant for study and photography: - the cost of re-mending vases now not in condition to be measured and photographed. This was expected to be a very small item with the work done in Nicosia, but is likely at Episkopi to amount to fifteen to thirty pounds, perhaps a bit more, -- It is impossible to make a real estimate until a number of the boxes have been opened. This expense will be kept to the lowest possible figure, but there is no chance that it [handwritten: wan] be small enough to be charged to Miss Grace's appropriation. I shall assume that the Museum will take care of it unless your telegram states the contrary.
If the vases are to be sent to Philadelphia we will repack such of them as may be necessary shortly after I return to Cyprus and ship them -- in October, I hope -- in accordance with the instructions that may have been received. I imagine that costs would be 25 to 50 p.c. greater than for the shipments made in 1932.
If you cable "Cyprus" we shall have to re-pack the vases after Miss Grace's work is done, I presume, [handwritten: but I shall be indicated to the first transportation back] [handwritten: to Nicosia] [handwritten: being charged] [handwritten: of the Cyprus Museum] and we may have to transport them to Nicosia or elsewhere. (I should say that this charge better be met by the Cyprus Museum were it not that we had free storage of the pottery for two years and a half).
If you cable"Cincinnati" our expenses will cease upon the conclusion of Miss Grace's work, as the re-packing and transportation will be at the charge of Cincinnati.
I am sorry to be troubling you with so long a letter about so small a matter; but we do need to have your answer as early as possible.
Sincerely yours,
