Dear Dr. Jayne:-

A telephone call day before yesterday from your Museum office informed me of Dr. Hill's inability to acquire a surveyor-architect out there, which alternative arrangement had been indicated by what your budget could at present afford. At the same time, having heard that Mr. John M Kokkin, a young Greek architect here, was planning to return home, I reached him in the hope that his return might solve your problem. He is, however, unable to go back at this particular season. Again I am greatly disappointed in not being able to help you find the person you need.

I shpuld add that Mr. Kokkin, being interested in adding this type of season work out there to his professional work in Athens, has already had conversations with Stillwell and Shear out there, and with Dr. Dinsmore here. As a resident Athenian expecting to be able to take up such work from time to time, I thought he might be one for you to keep in mind for the future. Mr. Kokkin is, I believe, qualified for the work, and happens to be an attractive, up and coming person. His present address here is 500 Riverside Drive, New York City. His reference is Columbia University.

Yours very truly,

(Looking for a person who can go out to Cyprus now, seems to be my only way of relieving the pain I feel from having had to "regret" the expedition myself).
