CYPRUS MUSEUM

June 7th,1934.

Dear Mr. Hill,

Mr. Schaeffer has arrived to-day and proposes to begin excavations next week. I explained to him that George, the museum foreman, is busy with you and suggested to him to have as foreman Lazaros the second attendant. But having discussed the matter with Mr. Schaeffer, I came to the conclusion to request you to accept a rearrangement which consists of sending you Lazaros and having George as foreman at Enkomi. The reasons for this are the following: George worked with the Swedes at Enkomi at their last excavations and knows the site well. The site of the mycenaean cemetery at Enkomi is a very difficult one and George would be very helpful in this particular case. Besides the labourers at Enkomi are apt to conceal things and it is necessary that the foreman should be a man who has worked previously with them and can control them better.
