Medelhavsmuseet: en introduktion ("Medelhavsmuseet: an introduction"; Stockholm 1982) is the Medelhavsmuseet's Swedish-language guide to its collections, written by its curators, with photographs by Margareta Sjöblom, chronological overviews by Marie-Louise Blennow and maps by Inger Kåberg.

It opens with Carl-Gustaf Styrenius on antiquity museums in Sweden and their background, followed by sections on Egypt (Beate George and Bengt Peterson), Mesopotamia to India (Peterson), Cyprus, Greece and Italy (Marie-Louise Winbladh, Pontus Hellström and Eva Rystedt), and Islam (Karin Ådahl), with a closing chronological overview.

The introduction to the Cyprus, Greece and Italy section explains that the museum was created by decision of the Riksdag in 1954 from the Egyptian Museum and the Cyprus collections, the finds of the Swedish excavations of 1927–1931 that came to Sweden in 1931. It describes them as the largest collection of Cypriot archaeological finds outside Cyprus, and they became the museum's Greco-Roman department.
