Klepini-Troulli: the 2004 survey
2004 · Klepini-Troulli
Müge Şevketoğlu's 2004 surface survey at Klepini-Troulli collected 45 sherds, ten flint pieces and a perforated disc, mostly painted ware.
This fieldwork took place after the Turkish invasion of 1974, in the north of Cyprus, which Turkey has occupied since then. It was carried out without the permission of the Republic of Cyprus, the island's only recognised state, whose Department of Antiquities does not recognise permits issued in the occupied areas.

The project
In 2004 Müge Hüseyin Şevketoğlu directed a surface survey at Klepini-Troulli that collected 45 sherds, ten flint specimens and one broken perforated disc1. Yurtdaş and Şevketoğlu classify 43 of the sherds as painted ware and two as an undefined ware group that may be unpainted parts of painted pottery1. Thermoluminescence results of 3860 ± 480 BC and 3570 ± 445 BC on two sherds from the survey are reported with a caution from the authors that context and earlier storage are unclear and the dates cannot currently be considered reliable1. The survey took place in the part of Cyprus occupied by Turkey since the invasion of 1974, without the permission of the Republic of Cyprus. The site now lies within the Teknecik Electric Power Plant, and the authors say that visits require a permit and strict supervision1. The survey is reported in their 2023 article in Colloquium Anatolicum1.
