5th day of the excavation. Friday 10 Nov. 1961. Fine. Heavy rain at Nicosia; not a drop at Enkomi.

Continuation of the excavations, still some marbles or inscribed balls and elsewhere a tub with 3 jars inside, etc. Left at 9 h with Odile for Famagusta, then to Nicosia to see the Embassy, interview with Baudouy, then to see Dikaios at the Museum to discuss publication , and evacuation works for earth brought down by rain, on on the east & south-east enclosure and the road question I prefer to show him this to remove his objections to the use of machinery. - Odile some shopping, lunch at Dikaios', then Kollokasides, antiq., has nothing, and return to Enkomi. - Faced with the enormity of the excavation field not yet explored, I wonder whether I should not introduce a 2nd mission there under my general direction, perhaps the Austrians (Schachermeyr)
