Tuesday 3 October1950 , 13th day of excavation.

Nothing to report. Workmen on soundings and continuation of clearing of upper levels, reg. North of the large building.

Wednesday 4 October 1950. 14th day of exc.

Obs. re the large building. Pt. 63, south of the sounding, we had the blocking of the former door or passage removed. This blocking rests on a core or base of burnt earth which occupies the position of the original threshold of the fine building. This threshold probably fitted into a recess cut in the E jamb of the door and at its base. The fire layer of the large building enters this recess proving that at the time of the fire the original threshold had already been missing. The reoccupation of the original building before its destruction is here proven, for in the time of the fine building the recess could not have been cut and the jamb cantilevered.
