MAYENCE_
Enkomi - Alasia (B. P. 8. Famagusta, Cyprus), 12. XI. 69 Dear Prof. Hundt, I hope that you are satisfied with für you with the results of your journey through France. Have you returned home? In the meantime we have only excavated in Syria and were able to get out there with difficulty because of the border fighting in the north, where we worked at Ras Shamra, particularly were violent. On 2 Nov. we arrived here somewhat late but were able to begin the excavations at once, which are progressing slowly because of a shortage of workmen but steadily. I have submitted the letter requested by Dr. Karageorghis concerning the moulding of the Lambousa finds, and also saw the Minister and his Secr. Général. I have no doubt that the permission will be granted. – At the beginning of the 2nd week of our excavation we found here one of the rare clay tablet fragments with a long text in the still enigmatic spätbronzezeitlichen zyprischen Schrift (XIII. Jahrh. vor.). Die tablet is somewhat encrusted. Dr. Karag. told me that he has no confidence in entrusting the valuable document for cleaning and moulding to the laboratory assistant of his museum. He and I hope that we may turn to you again. Of course the work will be charged. The piece is in a similar script to auf the clay cylinder of 1967 which you so beautifully prepared and moulded for us. Only this time it concerns a flat tablet fragment in hard-fired
