Dear Professor Schaeffer,

Many thanks for your letter. Your information was not quite correct and the cataloguing of your pottery has proceeded without any appreciable break and is now nearly completed.

Perhaps Mr. Merrillees did not tell you that I terminated his appointment at the University earlier in the year for rudeness, insolence and insubordination. He proved completely unsatisfactory in Cyprus. No doubt he also did not tell you that I was taken ill on the boat and have been extremely sick for the last few months.

When my wife has been able to draw your pottery it will be forwarded to Sydney as originally arranged with you.

Greetings to you and your wife from both of us.

Yours sincerely,

Handwritten: James R Stewart
