Copie à Merrillees 16 IX.61
Ras Shamra Expedition, c/o B.P. 228, Lattaquie (Prov. Syr.), R.A.U. Steward Australia
Dear Prof. Stewart,
From a letter received from Mr. Merrillees I learn that he has interrupted his cataloguing and other work on my Vounous material sent to Australia because it would involve frequent journeys to your private house at Mount Pleasant.
As in any case it is preferable that this material is preserved within the precinct of the University to which a great part of it will be given by me later on, I would suggest that you have brought the Vounous objects from my excavations to Sydney University where it could be available to Merrillees and other students. —
I am returning in November to Cyprus to continue work at Enkomi and hope to have an occasion to see your important finds in the museum.
My wife joins me in sending you both our cordial wishes & hopes to meet you again when you are back in the Old World
Yours sincerely C F A Schaeffer.
