Dear Dr. Plenderleith,
I had deferred my reply to your letter of April 10th for which I thank you, as there was hope that I may be able to come over to London & Oxford towards the end of this month.
But this hope has now been frustrated by heavy work & meetings at the end of the semester. So I would be very grateful if you could send the replica. In order to avoid custom difficulties, perhaps it would be good to send it by the same way as the original, if that is possible. If not, please add a certificate that the bowl is a replica made free of charge for scientific purposes & address to me as director of the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, Paris, 14 rue Turgot, St Germain en Laye.
The original is still exhibited in the Louvre where it is much admired. It will be returned to London for dispatch to Nicosia soon. Could you then add the second bowl which you have examined and which has no ornaments, and send it back together to Nicosia? I would be grateful to you.
Yours sincerely C F A Schaeffer
