April 29th, 1952.
Dear Professor Ashmole,
Thank you for your letter of April 25th.
I am glad that everything is arranged for the exhibition on the 23rd of May.
The idea has come to me if it would be possible, either before the exhibition in the B.M. or after to have the bowl shown at a meeting to the Ant. Society. I am an hon. member and for a long time to my regret, I was not able to come over to see them. My hope that I can come over to L. in June is unfortunately compromised because of my departure to the H.East which has to be earlier than I intended and also of particular hard pressure of work here. So, if the present station for which I am writing by letter to-day permission from Mosow would be possible, I would be glad if yourself, or Kendrick (excuse me Sir Thomas) or Wheeler would undertake to show it in the Burlington House with a short statement about the fund which I could prepare. Please let me know your idea and that of Mr Thomas to whom please give me best regards.
The authorities of the Louvre Museum have asked me if it would be possible that the bowl may later been shown in Paris before its return to Cyprus. I have asked Megaw about it and if he consents, I hope you would be good enough to send the bowl in a good parcel over to the Foreign Office for despatch to the Brit. Embassy in Paris. The Paris exhibition could take place either after the B.M. or after the operations of the slow process of electrotype replica is finished. I ask Megaw to extent the leave of the bowl accordingly. May I ask you to estimate approximately the cost of the process.
I hope you can give the time an appropriate statement of the exhibition of the bowl. It would interest many of my friends to whom I was not able to give news for a long time.
The book publication will be ready end of May and a copy for your department will reach you soon afterwards.
