Dear Dr. Schaeffer,
I find that I have omitted to mention the second bowl in my letter to you of yesterday's date. Unfortunately, it is in fragments and beyond redemption as it has been converted almost entirely to silver chloride. Chemical cleaning would merely cause further loss of shape and greater weakness and I cannot advise it. It has been X-rayed and shown to bear no ornament and it has yielded no fragments of gold that might have fallen from our niello cup. It will be stable in its present condition but, ofcourse, it is very frail. I do not propose to do anything with it.
With best wishes,
Yours sincerely,
