Dear Professor Schaeffer,

In my letter of the 30th January ,1958, I said that the photos of the 1955 vase and sherds selected by G. Contenson had already been sent. This was a mistake. The photos were in fact retained here for enclosure with my last letter, but when that was sent they were overlooked. Here they are.

We are starting work on the cleaning of the undivided objects of bronze. You mentioned your preference for a cleaning method less severe than that which we employ--cleaning down to the unaffected metal. Unfortunately this is the only method of which our technicians have experience. We will defer work on your finds for the present, in case you are able to secure for us directions for another method which would give the final effect which you desire.
