I enclose a receipt for the £20 you sent which has been credited to your deposit. At the end of the month we shall prepare a statement covering the whole of 1957 and send it together with one for 1956 showing the balance carried forward.

We are attending to the photography of the vases indicated by Kuss from your 1957 campaign. We have also photographed the 1955 sherds selected by de Contenson and Kuss drew the 2 vases, so the loan of these items was avoided. The prints will follows.

The holes for the 36 eucalyptus trees must by now be dug. We are simultaneously arranging to plant a row of 75 carob trees along the new road outside the W. Wall. The owners of the adjoining fields object to eucalyptus.

Marinos has been given your instructions about the materials he needs for pottery-mending. We have received approval for him to do the work in his own time on the terms agreed.

Thank you for your suggestion about improvement of the part of the film showing the horned god. I have passed this on to Dikaios who will put it to Wideson when he sees the film shortly. If it is retaken it will be some time before you will have the copy of the film for preparation of the commentary.

I have already spoken to the R.A.F. Commander about Aerial photographs. He seemed ready to help and I am now preparing formal application.

Dikaios hoped to start to-day on the completion of the lowest level in the incomplete part of his north area. Up to now it has been too muddy. Meanwhile he has attended to such other finishing touches as were possible, particularly the excavation of wells, the fillings of which remained unexamined. No important finds.

The latter are in most cases the actual vases which Bérard had himself selected as appropriate replacements.

Your Dolmen finds are in cases IX.

Handwritten: With all good wishes to you and Madame Schaeffer for 1958 from my wife and myself

I can say that this consignment was as well packed as any which has ever been packed in the Cyprus Museum. We have taken the same precaution against opening by the Security Control of the port as we did in regard to what you took with you. I hope it arrives in good order. Much will depend on the handling it receives at Marseilles and you may wish to arrange for it to have special attention there, as we are trying to secure for it at Pemagusta. It is being shipped on the "Rovigo" which is due to sail on 20th December.

Those of our staff who undertook the packing under Kuss's supervision were working during official time and they can therefore accept any reward apart from their salary. If their work proves to have been well done they would appreciate a word of thanks from you. They are Lazarus Nicolaou, George Markou and Andreas Georghiou.
