The latest history of the town of Alasia (XIIth - XIth century B.C.) comprises three periods. During the second period occurred an earthquake from which the town soon recovered. The latest town level (XIth century B.C.) shows that the city came to an end during an as yet unexplained upheaval which caused the population to bury its valuables and the statues of their gods, under their houses. These burials have never been recovered. The town had definitely been deserted before 1000 B.C. Many single finds and house plans of these settlements period of Enkomi-Alasia have been found by the expedition. These finds and observations will enable us to improve the knowledge as yet so scanty of this obscure period of the eastern Mediterranean world.
The French Expedition which gratefully acknowledges the cooperation of the Cyprus Antiquities Department intends to resume its exploration of Alasia next autumn.
