GOVERNMENT OF CYPRUS DEPARTMENT OF ANTIQUITIES NICOSIA 21st November, 1957.
(1) there is no item in the Cyprus Museum equal in value to the silver and gold bowl which could be made available. —
(2) I am not prepared to bring within the orbit of the present division items which have not yet been set out for examination. (I should however like to take this opportunity of assuring you that it will be my aim in the subsequent division or divisions to allocate in equal shares the cylinder seals, the domical seals, the votive ingots, and the inscribed balls).
(3) It would be contrary to the prime requirement of Section 16 (1) (c) of the Antiquities Law (Cap.43) if I were to assign to the excavator's share on item so patently necessary for the Cyprus Museum as is the silver and gold bowl.
5. In the circumstances it is only possible to meet your claim (that the present proposals give insufficient weight to the importance and value of the horned god and the gold and silver bowl) by reviewing these proposals again, with a view to improving still further the excavator's share, by the interchange of particular tomb groups or isolated objects there listed. But before proceeding to such a review I shall hope to have heard your ideas on what interchanges would in your opinion most effectively increase the value of your share. —
Yours sincerely,
