Enkomi-Alasia, 22.X.57, Famagusta. poste restante. Dear Mr Dikaios, I had you told through Mr Karageorghis whom I have dealings with for a study in progress that the excavations here are advancing well, we are working in the area of house 18 to complete the work here and to join, later, this excavation with that of the "temple area", eastern limit. - No important finds, but valuable stratigraphic indications. A small intact tomb of the M. Bronze Age with "Tell Yahoudijeh" pottery reused at the beginning of the Late Bronze. - Another tomb, no. 12 of my excavations of 1934 (cf. Miss. en Ch. p. 86, fig. 35) has been found under the building to which it belonged. The jamb of its door is built in structural connection with the wall of the building, which confirms that the tomb was built raised at the same time as the house- . - Next week we are going to return to the fine building cleared in 1954 (a kind of sanctuary) to finish here the work with a view to publication. - I have studied the work of P. Åström, on the Middle Cypriote Bronze Age. Very useful, but I am not sure that the conclusions are entirely accurate. He relies a great deal on Stewart's opinion, without citing the latter's sources. - P. 164 example typical of the author's critical and somewhat hostile spirit as far as I am concerned. I feel that the Swedes have still not forgiven us for having found the Bronze Age city of Enkomi, which their soundings helped to mutilate. Finally, scientific truth always ends up overcoming errors and doubts. - I would be grateful if you would authorise your librarian to lend me the vol. I of Sw. Cypr. Ex., or an extract concerning the excavations at Enkomi.
