Dikaios

28 . VIII. 57.

Dear Sir,

Mr Megaw being away on leave, I take the liberty of writing to you concerning the next excavation campaign at Enkomi. — I should like to begin the work in the first days of October. I would be very grateful to your department, if it would consent to lend me again the services of Mikaïl Vaios as foreman. — I shall arrive on 27 Sept. at Beirut (Inst. Fr. d'Archéologie, B.P. 1424) and will write to you from there immediately to indicate the date of my arrival at Nicosia.

I am delighted to see again with my wife your country, which was closed to us last year because of the sad events in Egypt. I hope that you are well as well as your family.

I embark on 3 Sept. for a tour of the Greek islands, Mycenae, Tiryns, then Troy in order to re-examine the materials Mycenaean and pre-Mycenaean of Greece for our work at Enkomi and Ras Shamra. If you wish to communicate with me before my arrival at Beirut, I ask you to write to Athens: Passenger Hellenic Cruise 9, s/s Adriatiki, c/o Hermes en Grèce, 4 rue du Stade, Athens. — Until we meet again soon, I ask you to present my respectful regards to Mrs Dikaios and to accept the expression of my best sentiments C F A Schaeffer.
