Handwritten: Dear Professor Schaeffer,
I enclose the full text of what we have made available to the press about Dikaios' recent work at Enkomi and at Salamis, where an interesting tomb turned up. On the former we have perhaps enlarged more than the small scale of the work warranted. But I am glad that we have now completed what had to be done within the limits of our North Gate area, in the part shown blank in the plan HS LXXV. Suppl. 29, Fig. 1. Dikaios can now go ahead with the preparation of his report on this area.
We have lately completed acquisition of the areas adjoining the west wall, and that leaves only one small plot within the walls in private hands.
I have just received your letter of 6th January for which many thanks.
The material for Stewart will now I fear be held up until the Canal is re-opened. We will now proceed with the preliminaries for the Enkomi division so that time will not be lost when you come in the Autumn. I shall be going to England this summer, all being well, and so when you have fixed your programme I should be glad to know when we may expect you here.
[handwritten: With all good wishes to you and Madame Schaeffer, in which Mary joins, and thanks for your message to us and to others here. [illegible] are being transmitted.]
Handwritten: Yours sincerely,
