Dear Monsieur Megaw, your letter of october 29th adressed to Lattaquié has only now reached me. And I hope that meantime my letter from Beyrouth dated Nov. 3rd has arrived in your hands. There seems to have been a complete blackout & postal interruption during the operations, when the island was the base. I think you will soon write me and let me know if there was any possibility for us to get over and dig at Enkomi. Seen from Beyrouth and in the absence of any news from you, the position seemed hopeless & as I could not afford to waite & waste time; we returned to Paris. Now I hope all will be forgotten next automn & that we can resume our research. I left my funds with Barclay's Famagousta. So if there is any payement to be done, please let me know. - Has Dikaios been able to do his verifications in connection with his report which I look forward to read as soon as finaly drafted. I am sure it will be very helpful for our own research. Did you evacuate the precious collections from your museum & did you arrange the partage which we intended to examine? - Jean Bérard wrote me a letter telling that he don't think it possible without destroying the unity of the tomb groups of his dig now in the Museum, to repair the loss of the Louvre part through the damage during the shipment. He proposes that I discuss the matter with you when next I meet you. That would now not be possible until next year. Do you agree? Please give our kind regards to Mrs Megaw & my souvenirs to Dikaios. Yours sincerely C F A Schaeffer.
