NICOSIA 29th October,1956.
Dear Prof. Schaeffer,
Thank you for your letter of 20th October, which crossed my telegram, and for your telegram in reply.
Dik. à / Enk. en / 1956On Dikaios' return from Europe we were anxious to have your plans confirmed, since your original intention was to come to Cyprus in September, and particularly because Dikaios wished to re-visit Enkomi himself in connection with the preparation of his report on the north area. He has decided to go there forthwith, even though he can hardly finish before you come all he wished to do. Consequently, if you do not finish at Ras Shamra in time to get here as early as the 10th November, it will suit us better.
There should be no difficulty in reaching Cyprus, since I understand all three air services from Beirut are still running. What you have seen in the newspapers must arise from new regulations which require aircraft flying over Cyprus to follow certain corridors. I shall ask Dikaios to report whether any difficulty about labour may arise. If you hear nothing more you may assume that none is foreseen. Thank you for indicating the composition of your party.
Hoping that your current campaign at Ras Shamra continues to be interesting and productive.
Yours sincerely A.H. Megaw
