… of Ayia Irini, and confirm the predominance of the bull cult (exceptionally that of the deer) in Cyprus during the transitional period from bronze to iron (12th-10th c. B.C.). From now on, we see that the cultic practices of the sanctuary of Ayia Irini constitute the most recent manifestation of religious traditions which go back to Ayios Iakovos and now to Enkomi as far as the Bronze Age . They seem to have been particularly vigorous in the Protogeometric or Cypro- Geometric I period . Moreover, it is interesting to note that the astrostratigraphic observations made at Enkomi in 1962 find a parallel in Greece in the soundings recently carried out at Iolkos in Thessaly , south of the Mycenaean Palace ( BCH, 1961, p.756), where four Protogeometric building phases have been determined, while a layer of Imenaia separated the Mycenaean level from the Protogeometric level.
