ENK. 61

- If one considers the whole of the finds of bronze objects, few in number moreover in 1961, one is struck by their distribution topographic, concentrated in the north quarter, craft-related: the chisels, eye-needles, nails, fibulae and even a heavy hammer in bronze all come from this quarter, which is moreover very rich in loom weights and spindle whorls of all kinds. Finally the three moulds of founders and goldsmiths confirm the character of the north zone. Special attention should be drawn to the jewellery mould in steatite en tout very comparable to the numerous similar examples from Ras Shamra. The one found at Enkomi in 1961 was used to make earrings, and pendants, one of which has a head of a bull, fairly realistic, in the style of a contemporary seal found at Enkomi in 1960, and numerous pendants with bull's heads coming precisely from the grave goods of tombs at Enkomi and other contemporary sites in Cyprus (cf. Nicosia Museum, in particular) of the Late Bronze.

Among the glyptic, represented this year by a small number of cylinders and seals, mention may be made of a seal in the form of a dome of very fine workmanship in steatite, with an animal scene: bull, long fish and bird (inv. no. 1); a seal also in the form of a dome, in frit or friable blue paste, with stylised figures (inv. 40); another seal of the same type with a very worn incised quadruped, was found in the layer with idols in t.c. (zone 134, pt 657 at 0 m 60, Inv. 17).
