in tools of all kinds for working bronze and gold, [illegible] pection in the mines, [illegible] a small sceptre bearing

a decoration of birds in the round standing on brackets and

decorated with pendants in the form of stylised flowers, [handwritten: illegible] a series of bronze rings that could be bracelets as well

as well as ingots.

In the same region we uncovered several

tombs [illegible] of the Mycenaean period as well as of the

sub-Mycenaean period. Silos installed in the basement of houses, they yielded an abundant set of grave goods which complete our knowledge of pottery and metal objects of the 15th to 12th centuries before our era.

A first inventory immediately allows us to grasp

the cultural and commercial orientation of the island, turned

first towards Asia, notably Syria and Egypt, then at

the course of the 14th century swinging towards the West under

the effect of Achaean influence.

We have not yet found a written document which

would allow us to determine the ancient name of the town of Enkomi which

we are in the process of clearing. But the frequent use of

graffiti attesting the use of writing in characters

syllabic, allows us to expect the discovery of an inscription

in the course of the excavations to come. In concluding this part of

my report I wish to note the welcome and the effective help

that the Mission found from the Department of Antiquities of

Cyprus, from its director Mr Megaw and from the Curator of the Museum

of Nicosia, Mr Dikaios.
