REPORT (Summary) of activity: 1960 / 1961 by J.-C. COURTOIS

Margin right: (handed to Mr Schaeffer, who / used it for the C.N.R.S.) / under his signature, with therefore / slight modifications....

1°/ On return from the XXIInd campaign of excavations at RS, preparation of the publication of the results of the SOUTH LIBRARY SOUNDING whose study had been entrusted to me: it is a matter of a study of the Early Bronze layers of Ras Shamra, hitherto still rather poorly known, and which stratigraphic research carefully carried out has made it possible to clarify, giving an interesting sequence from the point of view of architecture and pottery (burnished, painted, combed, etc.). Richly illustrated with line drawings, photographs and a synoptic stratigraphic section, this report already composed is at the page-setting stage at the Imprimerie Nationale, and is due to appear in the course of the year in the volume Ugaritica IV (about 70 pages in 4°), following the definitive report on the Soundings West 1953 (= 86 pages in 4°, already set in pages, final proofs corrected).
