Dear Colleague,

My reply to your letter of 8 Feb. has been delayed by absence. I thank you for your willingness to examine the amber fragments. I am sending the samples by the same post as Echantillon-recommandé to you & hope that the customs matter does not delay or lose anything.

The samples come from a necklace of amber beads, found in a tomb of the XIV. Jahrh. before Chr. The tomb was published by me in the journal SYRIA, 1938, p.205 ff, but in that preliminary publication I did not mention the amber beads. I believe it is a terramarine amber, but I would like to know your opinion. If you could make the analysis in the next 2 months, I would propose to print your opinion and in a prepared volume on Ugarit fundalgie. If you wish to publish the analysis & your conclusions in a German specialist journal I would also agree to that.

With best thanks again for your investigation, the result of which I await with interest.

Yours respectfully
