Dear Sir, I have indeed received your letter of 2 April. But I have no special credit to make possible your journey to Cyprus for the study of the horses of Salamis. I could however consider having your travel expenses Beyr-Ch.-Beyr paid and your stay expenses paid from the budget of my mission to Enkomi - Alasia on condition that your stay in Cyprus is above all devoted to the study of skulls and bones of oxen, deer and other animals removed in large numbers as offerings from the sanctuary of Enkomi- Alasia of the beginning of the Iron Age (12th-11th c.) and preserved in our depot and at the village of Enkomi. This would not prevent you from also making the study of the equids of Salamis; but charged to the budget of the French Mission to Cyprus (Enk. - Al.) the expenditure to be justified must above all be related to the research of this Mission, which you will certainly understand. — I propose and request to stenographKer

that in exchange for your examination of his horses, Mr Karageorghis arrange your transport within Cyprus Nic. and Enkomi - Salamis by a car from his department, and if he can, your lodging at Salamis. - See about this with him and write to me. In any case I agree to arrange your transport by air and cost of the stay of 7 to 10 days on the island. At Beyr., Mr Abdelnour at the Fr. Inst. of Archaeol. on my instructions will hand you the air ticket, outward and return, and at Nicosia, Mr Lapierre, at our Embassy of France, will hand you the sum of your expenses on the spot, which he is in a position to calculate, advising you.
As soon as I have your reply, I will give instructions to Beyr. and to Nicosia, and I am glad that thus your mission, so useful for our research French, comme as for those of Mr Karageorghis could be carried out.
Please accept, dear Sir, the expression of my distinguished sentiments and best wishes.
C F A Schaeffer.
PS Your study of the bones from the sanct. of Enk. - Alasia should appear in Vol II of this mission in 1966 -
