Monsieur le Professeur SCHAEFFER Collège de France

Monsieur le Professeur,

+ CourtoisI intended to go to Paris during the first quarter of this year to ask you kindly to receive me regarding a mission to Cyprus, as you had asked me to. I have not yet had, unfortunately, any opportunity to travel, est for I am currently occupied with writing a paper on the beginnings of animal husbandry in the Near East.

, Mr Karageorghis has just written to me about the horses of Salamis, whose study, which he reserves for me, seems urgent.

M. Courtois . où sont les crânes et ossements du sanctuaire à étudierI must go to Syria and Lebanon in June and July, and I may perhaps set aside a week for a stay in Cyprus to study these horses and make some preliminary observations on other material. But you know the cuts in credits that the CNRS has made to missions this year, and it will not be possible for me to enter the costs of a stay and a journey to Cyprus in the budget of my mission to the Near East, even starting from Beirut as will be the case. Mr Karageorghis leaves me to understand that you might be able to obtain a special credit for this trip. I would be extremely grateful if you would kindly let me know whether this is possible, and according to your reply, I will finalise my travel programme. With my thanks, I ask you kindly to accept, Sir, the expression of my profound respect. P Ducos
