New Archaeological Research French in Cyprus.

The French Archaeological Mission directed by Mr Claude F. A. Schaeffer, member of the Institute, professor at the Collège de France, assisted by MM R. Kuss and H. de Contenson, of the CNRS has resumed its research in the region of the delta of the Pediaeos river, not far from the village of modern Enkomi in Cyprus, north of Famagusta. It is here that the Mission found again the site of the capital of the island at the time of the Bronze Age contemporary with the New Egyptian Empire (16th-11th c. B.C.). This populous citand rich city whose existence was attested by cuneiform inscriptions ret found in Egypt, in Syria (at Ugarit ) and at Mari) and in Hittite Anatolia had disappeared without leaving any trace on the ground. A large number of antiquities and inscriptions in a still unknown script have been found there part of which brought back by the Mission has recently been installed in the Cypriot hall of the Louvre Museum. During the research currently in progress the south quarter of the town was explored and a large number of industrial installations cleared: potters' kilns,
