I have just hired a Morris Minor in Famagusta, a small car of the Dauphine type, which seems to be in good condition and for which I obtained from the garage owner all insurance maintenance and free repair in case of incident. All arrangements are made for the small team of Aitken and for the hiring of workmen, who will follow after a 48-hour interval. Michaël has done an excellent job on the pottery from the 1957 tombs and I have employed him since my arrival for the actual preparation itself. The house is in good condition, the south room has been re-whitewashed and the inventory of the north room has proved complete. The various attacks, according to my different sources, seem to target clearly identified persons, British or Turkish officials, and on the other hand there are now these bloody confrontations between Greeks and Turks, which cause more victims but always take the form of ambushes, attacks in isolated places or within a village. I hope that this brief information will be able to show you that, barring unthinkable provocation on our part, or obvious bad luck, there is not the slightest reason for fear fears during our stay here. Wind and sun will be my last subject. There is an abundance of both, and these two days are certainly among the hottest I have known here. Everything is very bearable however, and the great attraction we will enjoy is an extreme silence at night hours, due to the almost total ban on traffic in the evening. The post office has been informed about the mail; I do not think I will write to you before the beginning of the week next, since having finished the preparation this evening, I leave tomorrow morning to draw the weights in Nicosia and wait for Aitken on Sunday evening. Wishing you better weather than when I left Paris, please accept, as well as Madame Schaeffer, the expression of my respectful sentiments Roger Kuss
