Your premature departure at Enkomi prevented un me to show you and the other interested members that there are two kinds of ashlar work in Enk. Al, one of the XIVth-XIIIth c. at the Maison 18 and the "temple area" over the road and then a later version in reconstructed buildings of the early Iron Age (XII-XIth c.) with the caracteristic framework which you have so abundantly at Kition. I am confident that further research at both sites & elsewhere will make that clear. I also wanted to show you that the interpretation of the broken stone ring found at the bottom of the well in the socalled tempel of the column cannot be a capital, but was the "margelle" ( bordure of a well) of the early Iron age period, at which level we stopped digging in that area .

I am now staying here to complete the publication of my findings and am glad that Pelon with my assistants Courtois and Lagarce can continue the field work. The decision was not easy. I fell ill during July and early Aug. with a painful Zona (shingles) and a sort of exhaustion after having brought me to the decision to really renounce digging myself in Enk.-Al. and Ras Shamra.
