Dear Professor Schaeffer,

Thank you very much for your letter of 28th January and the enclosed reports about your 1963 campaign. I am most grateful to you.

[vertical lineI quite understand your feelings about the publication agreement. I hope that your letter will have a response. I am sending a photo of the God to D. as you proposed. I send to you under separate cover several photos of the God and the centaur, these views of which we could have photos made now. As you know the Museum is practically not functioning and most of the staff is doing other duties at present. So we shall have to wait for the rest until normal conditions prevail. The same for the weight of the silver bowl and the God. But I am under the impression that I did give to you or ] to Courtois the weight of the bowl before and after treatment. Probably you noted it somewhere.

Here the situation is more confused than ever. The Americans and the British are blindly and foolishly creating in Cyprus another Cuba. We were menaced before by an invasion from Turkey, now the menace comes from NATO. I am glad France is taking the right attitude towards the problem, though your representative here still lives in the 19th cent. Makarios is tackling the whole affair with tact, but the people here are furious against this new shameless attitude of the West who are prepared to sacrifice peace for 90,000 Turks at the expense of 450.000 Greeks. This is, of course an excuse. The real motive is for the Americans to get a foothold here. No wonder the world is turning communist; I can now see it clearly, with my own eyes; unhappily there are people who have eyes and cannot see. What a pity the West has such a naive leadership. I am proud of France, the first European country which has realized this and is going its own way.

With best wishes to you both.

Yours ever,

VassosKarageorghis
