French Archaeological Expedition to Enkomi - Alasia Famagusta, poste restante, 5. October 1963.

The Director of Antiquities Cyprus. Nicosia

Sir, The excavations at Enkomi - Alasia having now proceeded during 16 seasons by the French Archaeological Expedition, a considerable part of the ancient site has been excavated. This area is open to the public under the guidance of a Custodian and an entrance fee is charged. It now seems to me that the site could be considered as an archaeological site in care of the Cyprus Antiquities Department . I would therefore suggest that the French Expedition should no longer be charged with half of the custodian's yearly salary as until now, but only during its operations in the not yet excavated town area, that is to say for about 2 months each year. I hope that this arrangement will be considered as satisfactory by you. Yours sincerely C. F. A. Schaeffer.
