The Cultural Attaché at the French Embassy in Cyprus takes the liberty of reminding you and renewing the appeal he had addressed at the end of 1961 to a number of Hellenists of French language and publishers of works in French on Greece, in favour of the future public Library of the Greek Community of Cyprus

On the part of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, some publishers and authors; gifts have already been dispatched which will be in some time officially handed over to Mr C. SPYRIDAKIS, doctor of letters and Hellenist, President of the Greek Communal Chamber and friend of our culture.

It would be of the greatest interest for the French-language collection to be as rich as possible, alongside the very important gifts made to this Library by the British Council.

Any work will therefore be welcomed with the liveliest gratitude, study, translation, tourist and art album, novel etc. relating to prehistoric, ancient, Christian, Byzantine and modern Greece.

Dear Sir, I thank you for your letter of 16 April and regret deeply to have find myself unable to send you my arch. works on Cyprus. These are out of print for a long time as far as concerns My Missions in Cyprus published in 1937 and Enkomi-Alasia I, pub published in 1952 (I believe). I have given orders to antiquarian booksellers to buy for me any copies they can find in sales. However, there remain at the Oxf. Univ. Press a few copies of my Stratigraphie Comparée which contains a chap. on the archaeology of Cyprus and my researches. I give orders to send a copy to Mr the Ambassador. He may add it on my behalf to the gift to the Greek Library, if the vol. seems to him to belong in that collection. Otherwise, I ask Mr the Ambass to keep it for the Embassy library - Est-ce que I hope the future public library of the Greek Com. of Cypr is also accessible to to the Turkish Com. among which there are several scholars who are interested in the archaeology of the island. M'étonner
