Megaw rectifie Sept. 19 verbalement / que je n'ai à payer que 1/2 = 91 £ 5 sh, / reste crédité / à mon / dépôtDear Dr. Schaeffer,
1/2 / en réalitéThank you for your letter of 24th July enclosing the cheque for £182.10.0, for which I attach an official receipt. We shall now go ahead with the final formalities for the transfer of the property.
I am glad to have the dates and details of your forthcoming campaign. We shall expect Forrer and Kuss early in September and I note that they will concern themselves with the north-west and south-west sectors of the town wall.
As regards the loan of staff I shall arrange for Michael Vaios to put himself at your disposal throughout your campaign. I propose to continue to pay him his salary as usual and that, when he ceases to work for you, we should recover the appropriate amount from you. His salary is £14.7.4½ per month at present and he is due for £1 per month increase from October. The Government is at present reviewing the slaries of this category of employee and this may result in some additional small increase. He is not entitled to any allowance from us when working at Enkomi, as he lives at home.
We hope to be able to make George Anastasiou available also, unless something unexpected turns up. His salary, which we should also have to recover from you, is £37.15.0 per month and when working for us at Enkomi he is entitled to a subsistence allowance of £0.12.6 per day and makes his own arrangements about renting accommodation. It might be best if we left it to you to settle direct with him his claim for this subsistence allowance and in that case you could make any adjustment you wish in consideration of the £2 per day you paid him during the last campaign over and above the sum he would have received if working for the Government.
I note that M. Masson will be visiting Cyprus in connection with his studies on the Cypro-Minoan script. We will do what we can to help him.
I have now received your letter of 24th July and am informing the Commissioner that we do not want any of the acquired land at Enkomi cultivated at present. I note that you wish to consider this matter further on the spot.
I hope that if the British Embassy had not yet heard from our Secretariat about the bronzes and tablet which Plenderleith is going to deal with you had no difficulty when delivering them. I am asking that they be informed about the figurine, the bull and the sickle fragment, and am also communicating with Plenderleith about this.
