Dear Dr. Schaeffer,

It now seems that it will be difficult for Dikaios to do his supplementary work at Enkomi this month as planned. He was taken ill at Sotira, where living and eating conditions are very bad. Although he has taken a fortnight off in the hills to recover, he feels that it would be wiser not to go to Enkomi now, in the height of summer.

I imagine there will be an opportunity for him to do what he has to do in the autumn when you are at Ras Shamra, either before or after your Enkomi campaign. I believe you thought of doing your Enkomi campaign first this year, which would leave November available for our work. I should be glad to hear what you decide in due course.

In the circumstances there is no hurry about the communiqué , which I think should be issued when next work is resumed on the site, either your new campaign or our supplementary work as the case may be.

Yours sincerely,

A.H.Megaw
