Dear Professor Schaeffer,

I hope you and Madame Schaeffer had a good trip back home. I was sorry to leave Cyprus at the time when you were excavating. I hope no difficulties arose.

I should like to say how very glad I was with the visit to you of my Minister and my Director-General. We all enjoyed very much your hospitality. Thanks again to you and Madame Schaeffer. Wishing you "many happy returns" I would like to congratulate you for the discovery of the tablet.

As I am preparing now simultaneously my Annual Report of the Director (my Minister wants it to appear early next year) and of my Chronique in BCH, I should be grateful if you could send me your report with an illustration or two within the month of December.

I regretted your absence at the Institute when I gave my communication on Kition. Monsieur le Sécretaire Perpetuel was very much interested in the Phoenician inscription from the temple. I hope I shall be able to "correspond" in this way once or twice a year with the Academy.

Wishing you and Madame Schaeffer a Happy Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Yours very sincerely,
