Mr V. KARAGEORGHIS Director of Antiquities N I C O S I A Island of Cyprus

Dear Director and Friend,

I hope you have returned well from Athens and that you found Mrs Karageorghis and your children in good health.

Mr Clert, of the Caravelle Company, is to carry out filming at the Museum for a film on the excavations at Enkomi (as he will for those of Mr Pouilloux) and has seen you on this subject. I enclose the list of objects from the French excavations to be filmed, a list he asked me to draw up and send to you so that you may authorise the removal of objects from the showcases or stores for these operations. On the other hand, as it is to be feared that the date of the operators' stay will not coincide with our stay at Enkomi for the excavations (perhaps Mr Lagarce will be there), I propose that they film on site House 18, some of the large beltiés tombs of Syrian type and the ruins of the sanctuary to the god of the ingots. - The choice of these shots and of the objects corresponds to the presentation I must give as an introduction to this film.

Mr Clert tells me that the Presidency's helicopter will be placed at his disposal to film the excavations at Enkomi and Salamis. We lack aerial photographs of our site and have been requesting them for a long time (Mr Pouilloux has already received some, I believe). Would it be possible to have photographs taken on this occasion, with oblique light and at low altitude, of the excavations at Enkomi? That would help us greatly.

I received a letter of thanks from Mgr. Makarios for Ugarítica V yesterday. Everything is therefore in order.

Mr Lagarce and his wife (née E. de Puytison) will arrive in Nicosia and Enkomi on 5 or 6 October to install the new houses and prepare our excavations. He is also to inventory the 4 swords brought back from Mainz by me and handed over to your museum. - The last bronzes from Enkomi (scale pans, weights, fragments of ingots and tools) were brought back by me from Mainz and handed over-to-your-museum . Mr Courtois or I myself will bring them back to Nicosia in November.

Until soon then. Respectful regards and remembrances from my wife to Mrs Karageorghis.

Yours devotedly
