I am honoured by your kind invitation to write for your review on the occasion of the Congress of International Cypriot Studies an article on the present state of Cypriot Archaeology. It is a very fine subject and one which does honour to your country, to your scholars and to all those who have worked in Cyprus in the service of the Archaeology and Hist. of your country. – Unfortunately, overburdened with work and given donné the short time-limit of your invitation, it is not possible for me to my very great regret, to accept your proposal. The man who should write this article would be your very learned and so active Director of Antiquities whom I have the honour of counting among my friends, Dr. Vassos Karageorghis.

I beg you to be so kind as to excuse me and please accept, Dear Sir Editor, the expression of my most distinguished consideration.
