Dear Professor Schaeffer,

Thank you very much for your letter of 13th August. I am glad to know that you will resume your excavations at Enkomi, but I regret that you did not write to me earlier to let me know about the early date; there are a few practical difficulties. 1) I shall be away in Austria between 26th of August and 10th September. 2) It will not be possible to let you have Marinos earlier than the 15th September and at any rate not more than two or three weeks because we are arranging the Famagusta Museum for which he is responsible and which will have to open for the public before October this year.3) I shall be excavating myself at Salamis the whole of October, according to a plan which we arranged with other members of the Department. We shall, of course, do everything to assist you, but the above difficulties remain. Personally I would prefer that your Assistants arrive after the 10th September, when I shall be back from Austria. In that case please indicate the exact date of their arrival. It so happens that we shall have at least a dozen foreign archaeologists visiting us in September and I shall be extremely busy.

We have ordered for you 25 small picks. I should be glad to have a letter from you before the 26th of August so that I know about your final plans before I leave. With all good wishes to Madame Schaeffer and yourself. My wife with the children is in France but will be back in September.

Yours very sincerely,

Vassos Karageorghis

(Vassos Karageorghis).

Monsieur le Professeur Cl.F.A. Schaeffer, Membre de l'Institut, La Chaumière, Fréland, (H_t_ Rhin), France.
