4 April 1949

Dear Director,

Reporting to the Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres at its session of 1st April on my excavations in the island of Cyprus and on my discovery of the capital of the Cypriot kingdom of the second millennium, I noted that the identification of this city with Alasia of the texts ancient belongs to Mr René Dussaud, member of the Institut, (see Compte Rendu de l'Académie, 29 January 1949.)

On the other hand, I brought to the knowledge of the Académie a report from my colleague Mr P. Dikaios, conservator of the Nicosia Museum, assistant director of the Mission Franco-English of Enkomi, constituted last year with a view to intensifying and widening the exploration of the great site of Enkomi. It was during his excavations that the statue of bronze, 55cm high, identified by me with the Apollo Alasiotes, was found.

I beg you to be so good as to specify your report of 3-4 April last, and to accept, Sir, the Director, the expression of my distinguished sentiments.

Director of Research at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique Director of the Archaeological Mission Française et de la Mission Franco- Anglaise d'Enkomi.
